Roads in Lithuania are generally of a good standard, with only the most rural of areas having poor surfaces. Driving is a simple and quick way of getting around the country thanks to the short distances between cities and the relative lack of traffic on the roads. Bus services cover the whole country and are a cheap and efficient manner of travelling around the country, if a little uncomfortable. Other public transport present in the country comes in the form of taxis, trolleybuses and minibuses. Trains in Lithuania tend to be faster than buses, though less popular as they are more expensive. This expense amounts to hardly anything extra in Western terms however, so train travel should not be overlooked for the cost, efficient running and added comfort it offers. Internal flights operate from airports in Kaunas, Palanga and Siauliai but are infrequent at the best of times. Land travel is far easier and cheaper.
